What is the role of the Bible in spiritual life? A look from the Sabbath School lesson

In a world where everyone can choose their own “truth” and every platform offers its own value system — the Bible stands as a unique guide. Not because “that’s the way it’s always been done,” but because it reveals the character of the living God and His plan for every person.

“For the word of God is living and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword.” Heb. 4:12

The Bible is God-breathed and profitable

“All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.” 2 Tim. 3:16

Paul highlights four functions of Scripture, and each is relevant today:

  • Teaching — reveals what God is like and what His plan for humanity is.
  • Reproof — shows where we have deviated from that plan.
  • Correction — points the way back to the right path.
  • Instruction in righteousness — shapes a character and way of thinking that correspond to God.

Sabbath School as a space for living study

The Sabbath School lesson is not a lecture for passive listeners. It is a community of people who immerse themselves together in the Word of God and together ask: what does this mean for our lives right now?

Studying together is important because the Holy Spirit opens Scripture through different experiences and different questions. What one person did not notice, another will see. What seemed like theory becomes alive in someone’s testimony.

Practical meaning

  • Read the Bible not as a duty, but as an encounter with the One who inspired it.
  • Come to the Sabbath School lesson not only to receive answers, but also to ask questions and hear the experience of others.
  • Allow the Word to work — do not only read, but ask: what is this saying to me personally today?

The Bible is not outdated — it speaks to every generation with the living voice of God. The only question is whether we have an open heart to hear.

The mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church is to convey the message of God's great love for every person, leading them to accept Jesus as their personal Savior, which in turn motivates every believer to make changes in their own lives and serve God and their neighbors.
