Although Ellen White did not always phrase the idea of the inexhaustibility of Scripture in exactly the same words, this principle runs through her writings from beginning to end. Key places where this idea is expressed most clearly:

Education

It is here that White states most directly the idea that the human mind cannot exhaust even one biblical truth. The book is written as a concept of education based on the Word of God—and the inexhaustibility of Scripture is its foundational principle.

Steps to Christ

“The more you search the Scriptures, the greater your respect and love for them will grow.”

White describes Bible reading as a process in which each immersion reveals new layers. This is not because the text changes—but because the reader grows and gains the ability to “see” more deeply.

Testimonies for the Church

In several volumes, White warns against superficial reading of Scripture and calls us to “dig deep.” She uses the image of a miner searching for gold: the surface yields only what is superficial. Gold is deep.

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach.” James 1:5

Practical meaning

  • If you want to find a specific White quote—search in EGW writings (egwwritings.org) by the keywords: “inexhaustible,” “one truth,” “mine the depths,” “depths of Scripture.”
  • The principle is unchanged: the Word of God is inexhaustible. Spiritual growth is the process of entering more and more deeply into it.

White expressed this idea more than once and in more than one book—because for her it was not a theoretical position, but the living experience of a student of the Word of God over decades.

The mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church is to convey the message of God's great love for every person, leading them to accept Jesus as their personal Savior, which in turn motivates every believer to make changes in their own lives and serve God and their neighbors.
