Today, you can read the Bible online for free, in dozens of translations, on your phone or computer—including in Ukrainian. There is only one question: which translation should you choose, and where can you find it without getting lost among dozens of options?
Which Ukrainian translations are available online
The Bible has been translated into Ukrainian several times. Each translation has its own distinct features—from classical language to contemporary style.
Ivan Ohienko Translation (1962)
The best-known and most widely used translation in Ukrainian Protestantism and among Adventists. It is based on the Masoretic Text of the Old Testament and the Textus Receptus of the New Testament. The language is literary, somewhat archaic, but understandable and highly quotable. Available on BibleGateway, in all popular apps, and offline.
Ivan Khomenko Translation (1963)
A classic Catholic translation completed in Rome. It includes the deuterocanonical books (Tobit, Judith, Wisdom of Solomon, etc.). Its style is more modern than Ohienko’s and beautifully conveys the poetic books. Suitable for comparison and deeper study.
Rafail Turkoniak Translation (Ukrainian Bible Society, 2011)
The newest established translation. It is based on critical editions of the original texts (Nestle-Aland for the New Testament, BHS for the Old Testament). Contemporary, living language. Published by the Ukrainian Bible Society, available on UBS and in the app YouVersion / Bible App.
Modern Translation (UMT, 2020)
A conversational, easy-to-read version for those who are just beginning to get acquainted with the Bible or want to understand the text without struggling through archaic language. Suitable for reading aloud, children’s lessons, and first-time introduction.

What to choose for daily reading
For most readers, the following approach is practically useful:
- Main translation — Ohienko or Turkoniak. This is your “working” Bible for regular reading.
- Translation for comparison — Khomenko or UMT. Use it when a verse sounds unclear.
- App on your phone — YouVersion. The Bible is always with you, audio for the road, and year-long reading plans.
If you want to read the Bible systematically, install the “Bible in a Year” plan in YouVersion. That is 3–4 chapters a day. In 365 days you will go through all Scripture from Genesis to Revelation.
Audio Bible: when there is no time to read
If you spend a lot of time on the road, listen to the Bible. Most apps have professionally recorded audio in Ukrainian:
- YouVersion / Bible App — Ohienko in Ukrainian, free.
- Bible.is — audio in many languages, including Ukrainian.
- YouTube — full audio books of the Bible in one video; you can listen in a playlist.
Ellen White wrote: “The Word of God is the Bread of Life. The one who reads and understands the Bible receives strength not only for the mind, but also for the will. Therefore, it is worth finding time every day for at least one chapter—in a format that truly works for you.
