God in Scripture has faithfully presented the chronology of His creative activity. During the recent six days of creation, the Lord created “the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that in them is,” and on the seventh day He “rested.” Thus, the Lord established the Sabbath as an eternal memorial of His work, accomplished and completed during the six literal days that, together with the Sabbath, made up the week we know today. The first man and woman were created in the image of God, as the crowning glory of creation, given dominion over the world and the responsibility to care for it. The world, at the completion of its creation, as the Bible says, was “very good,” and its perfection declared the glory of God.
