\u201cNatural inclinations\u201d are not permission to serve only where it is comfortable, but a wise consideration of the abilities, responsibilities, and limits God has given a person.<\/strong> Christian service requires self-denial, but it does not require irresponsibly ignoring health, family, the moral law, or one\u2019s real calling.<\/em><\/p>\n

The expression about work that \u201cdoes not come into conflict with natural inclinations\u201d should be understood in a holistic Christian sense. It is not about the sinful desires of the old nature, nor about the principle, \u201cI will do only what I like.\u201d Rather, it means the traits that God has allowed or given to a person: their gifts, temperament, experience, health condition, family responsibilities, professional skills, and opportunities. A living Christian does not seek excuses for inactivity, but serves God wisely and faithfully in the field the Lord opens before them.<\/p>\n

Not sinful desires, but God-given opportunities<\/h2>\n

The Bible distinguishes between the \u201cflesh\u201d as a sinful nature and the good personal qualities that can be sanctified for service. If a person says, \u201cMy inclination is to avoid responsibility, become angry, seek advantage, or live for myself,\u201d that is not something to submit to. Christ calls us not to indulge such desires, but to deny ourselves and follow Him.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.\u201d Matt. 16:24<\/a><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Therefore, \u201cnatural inclinations\u201d cannot mean the right to refuse God\u2019s will because of fear, laziness, or love of comfort. A shy person, for example, may not have a calling to public preaching, but can still testify through personal conversation, a letter, prayer, kindness, or helping a neighbor.<\/p>\n

Different gifts \u2014 one service<\/h2>\n

God does not assign the same work to everyone. One can clearly explain Scripture, another is good at visiting the sick, a third organizes practical help, a fourth knows how to listen, encourage, or teach children. All these kinds of service have value when carried out with love for Christ. The apostle Paul compares the church to a body: its members differ, but they need one another.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor as in one body we have many members, but all the members do not have the same function, so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another.\u201d Romans 12:4-5<\/a><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Therefore, a person should ask: what opportunities has the Lord already placed in my hands? Perhaps it is the ability to prepare food for those in need, honest work, hospitality, music, teaching, caring for the elderly, financial support for the mission, or a daily kind word. The mission field does not necessarily begin with a stage or a distant journey, but with faithfulness in the nearest circle.<\/p>\n

The cross does not mean recklessness<\/h2>\n

To bear the cross means putting Christ and His cause above one\u2019s own selfishness. However, it is not a command to neglect children, ruin one\u2019s health, violate moral principles, or take on a ministry for which a person is completely unprepared. God is a God of order, not of exhausting bustle. A Christian should assess their strength, seek counsel from spiritually mature people, and ask for God\u2019s wisdom.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.\u201d James 1:5<\/a><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Ellen G. White repeatedly emphasized that every believer is called to be a missionary in their own surroundings. She also stressed the importance of practical service: good deeds, compassion, personal influence, and faithful fulfillment of daily duties. Such work does not always match our preferences, but it may correspond to the opportunities God has given.<\/p>\n

Do not confuse inclination with comfort<\/h2>\n

There is an important difference between real inability and unwillingness. A person may say, \u201cI am not inclined to speak with strangers,\u201d when in reality they are simply afraid. Another says, \u201cI cannot help,\u201d though they have the time and means, but do not want to sacrifice them. In such cases, Christ calls us to grow in faith. God often expands our boundaries when we take a small step of obedience.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.\u201d Col. 3:17<\/a><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Practical application<\/h2>\n

Today, identify one accessible action through which you can serve Christ: call a lonely person, pray with someone who is suffering, support someone in need, share biblical hope, or faithfully fulfill your household and professional duty. Do not wait for a \u201cgreat\u201d mission. Ask God to show you how to sanctify your abilities, and do not refuse to do good just because it is inconvenient.
