A person may outwardly remain religious, attend worship services, and know biblical texts, while at the same time not allowing God to change a specific area of life: resentment, dishonesty, addiction, pride, or unwillingness to forgive.<\/p>\n These words do not mean that every difficulty in life is a direct punishment from God. People faithful to God also experience sickness, loss, and trials. However, stubborn rejection of God's voice truly leads to disaster, because sin has destructive consequences.<\/p>\n Unforgiveness destroys peace of soul and relationships. Lies give birth to more lies. Secret sin gradually enslaves. Pride distances a person from others and from God. The Lord warns us not because He wants to deprive us of joy, but because He sees the end of the road that we may not see.<\/p>\n \u201cThe fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, turning a person away from the snares of death.\u201d Prov. 14:27<\/a><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n Reverence before God is a \u201cfountain of life\u201d because it teaches us to trust God's wisdom more than our own feelings, habits, or the pressure around us.
