For a Christian family, they are a shared commitment: how we want to speak, serve, forgive, and respond in difficult circumstances. When rules are built on biblical principles, they help create an atmosphere of safety, respect, and love at home.

Christ Is the Center of the Home

The shortest and most important rule is: “Christ is the center of our home.” It means that decisions, words, rest, child-rearing, and the way guests are treated are tested by the question: “Does this reflect the character of Jesus?” The family will not be perfect, but it can choose each day to serve God.

"But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." Joshua 24:15

It is helpful for this phrase to be more than just words on a wall. It can be repeated during morning or evening prayer. In this way, children see that faith is not a separate part of life, but the foundation of the whole home.

Rules for Words and Attitudes

For daily communication, the wording can be very short: “We speak calmly,” “We do not wound with words,” “We think of others,” “We forgive quickly.” These are understandable even for small children and at the same time necessary for adults.

“Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.” Eph 4:29

The tone of voice sometimes hurts no less than the words themselves. Therefore, the rule “We speak with respect” is especially valuable during times of fatigue, arguments, or children’s disobedience. It does not forbid honestly expressing pain or disagreement, but teaches us to do so without humiliation.

“Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.” Phil. 2:4

When someone has made a mistake, it is worth applying the rule: “We ask forgiveness and we forgive.” Forgiveness does not call sin good and does not cancel wise boundaries, but it does not allow resentment to rule the family.

“Bearing with one another and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.” Col. 3:13

Teaching by Example

The short phrase “Parents set the example” reminds us of a great responsibility. Children remember not only instruction, but also how father and mother pray, admit mistakes, treat one another, and behave under pressure. The rule for children can also be simple: “We respect and help.”

“Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.” Prov. 22:6

Ellen G. White emphasized that home life is a child’s first school, and that the spirit of love, order, and self-control should be seen first of all in the behavior of the parents. Discipline is necessary, but its goal is not control for the sake of control, but the formation of a character able to love God and neighbor.

Order, Service, and Hospitality

Here are a few more fitting rules: “We maintain order,” “We help without reminders,” “Our home is open to people.” Order teaches responsibility, and working together shows that a family is not a place where only one person serves everyone else, but a team.

Hospitality does not necessarily mean large gatherings. It may be tea for a lonely person, help for a neighbor, or a sincere conversation with someone experiencing loss. Through such simple acts, the family becomes a light to those around them.

“Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some have unwittingly entertained angels.” Heb. 13:2

Peace Begins at Home

The rule “We bring peace and goodness” helps the family look beyond its own needs. The atmosphere at home should prepare each family member to be a peacemaker at school, at work, in church, and in society.

“If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men!” Rom. 12:18

Practical application: choose 6–8 of the most important short rules, write them in large letters, and discuss them together as a family. During the week, ask each evening: “Which rule were we able to keep today? What can we do better tomorrow?” End the conversation with a short prayer, asking Jesus to make your home a place of His peace.

Joshua 24:15, Ephesians 4:29, Philippians 2:4, Colossians 3:13, Proverbs 22:6, Hebrews 13:2, Romans 12:18
[145
post-9659","answers","type-answers","status-publish","hentry","answer_topic-other
["GET
