The serpent is Satan, acting through persecuting powers. When the enemy tries to destroy God’s people, the Lord prepares for them a place in the wilderness—a space of shelter, spiritual nourishment, and preservation of faith.

“But the woman was given two wings of a great eagle, so that she might fly into the wilderness to her place, away from the serpent, and there be nourished for a time, and times, and half a time.” Rev. 12:14

The wilderness does not necessarily mean complete solitude or the absence of God’s presence. In biblical history, the wilderness was often the very place where God led, taught, and fed His people. Therefore, this image brings hope: persecution cannot cancel God’s plan for the church.

What do the eagle’s wings mean?

The image of eagle’s wings has a clear Old Testament background. After delivering Israel from Egypt, God described His care in the language of an eagle who not only gives strength, but carries His people to safety and into covenant relationship with Himself.

“You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings and brought you to Myself.” Exod. 19:4

Thus, in Revelation 12:14 the eagle is not a symbol of an earthly political state or some particular human power. The main emphasis is on God’s initiative: He gives wings, opens the way, and sustains His children. Similarly, the prophet Isaiah connects the eagle with renewed strength for those who trust in the Lord.

“But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.” Isa. 40:31

Is this eagle connected with Revelation 4:7?

In the book of Revelation, images may echo one another, but the same word or symbol does not always have the same function. In the vision of the heavenly throne, the fourth living creature is like a flying eagle. It belongs to the heavenly worship around God’s throne.

“And the fourth living creature was like a flying eagle.” Rev. 4:7

Whereas in Revelation 4:7 the eagle is part of the description of the living creatures, in Revelation 12:14 the “wings of a great eagle” explain the woman’s flight and preservation. So one may speak of a general thematic echo: heavenly reality and God’s authority stand behind the protection of His people. However, the text does not say that the living creature from chapter 4 directly gives wings to the woman or specifically interprets this episode.

Prophetic time and the experience of the church

The expression “a time, times, and half a time” corresponds to the 1260 prophetic days mentioned in other parallel texts of this chapter. In Adventist historicist interpretation, applying the biblical day-for-a-year principle, this period is understood as 1260 years of papal persecution, traditionally associated with A.D. 538–1798. During this time, faithful Christians often sought refuge in remote places, but the main point of the prophecy is not geography, but God’s faithfulness.

“And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God, that they should feed her there one thousand two hundred and sixty days.” Rev. 12:6

Ellen G. White also emphasized that during dark periods of spiritual apostasy, God preserved witnesses to the truth. The church may have been unnoticed by the world, but it was never forgotten by Heaven.

Hope for the believer today

Revelation 12:14 does not call us to search for hidden meanings in every mention of an eagle, but to strengthen our trust in God. Christ does not promise His people a life without struggle, yet He does promise His presence, spiritual nourishment, and final deliverance. Practically, this means that when pressure, fear, or loneliness seem like a “wilderness,” we should turn daily to God’s Word, pray, hold fast to the church community, and remember that the Lord still gives His people “eagle’s wings.”

# Откровение 12:14
¹⁴ И даны были жене два крыла большого орла, чтобы она летела в пустыню, в свое место, от лица змия и там питалась в продолжение времени, времен и полвремени
Это не является связью с орлом? До 5 предложений
165
post-9653","answers","type-answers","status-publish","hentry","answer_topic-end-times-2
["GET
