Below are specific pieces of counsel based on biblical principles and the thoughts of Ellen G. White. The wording of her quotations may vary somewhat depending on the Ukrainian edition.

Start forming habits early

Ellen White wrote: “The education and training of children should begin in early childhood. For then the mind and heart are most receptive, and the direction they take is most likely to remain throughout life” (Ellen G. White, “Child Guidance,” chapter “When to Begin the Child’s Training”).

This counsel does not mean that a small child should be overloaded with demands. It refers to simple daily habits: thanking God for food, putting away toys, greeting others, asking forgiveness, telling the truth, listening to parents, and praying. It is the repetition of small right actions that gradually builds character.

The Bible shows that God’s truths should sound naturally in home life, not only in church or during family worship.

“And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.” Deut. 6:6–7

Practical application: choose one habit for the week. For example, this week the whole family learns to respond without rudeness; next week, to clean up their place after meals. Do not demand everything at once, but be patient and consistent.

Remember: example speaks louder than correction

Ellen White emphasized: “Children imitate their parents; therefore great care should be taken to give them a right example” (“Child Guidance,” chapter on the power of example).

A child notices not only what parents tell them to do, but also how they speak to one another, how they react to fatigue, how they handle money, whether they admit their mistakes, and how they pray. It is impossible to convincingly teach gentleness if shouting constantly fills the home. It is difficult to instill honesty if adults themselves excuse falsehood for “convenient” reasons.

The apostle Paul calls parents not only to require obedience, but also to build such an atmosphere that the child will not be crushed by constant condemnation.

“And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.” Eph 6:4

Practical application: when you have wronged your child—answered harshly, failed to keep your word, or accused them unfairly—ask for forgiveness. This does not weaken parental authority. On the contrary, the child sees what repentance, honesty, and respect look like in practice.

Do not correct a child in anger

Ellen White advised: “A child should never be corrected while you are angry. If you wish to shape his character after the likeness of Christ, you yourself must be an example of meekness and patience” (“Child Guidance,” chapter “Discipline”).

Discipline is necessary. Love is not indifference to falsehood, disobedience, or cruelty. Yet punishment spoken or carried out in rage often humiliates the child instead of teaching them. In anger, an adult easily exaggerates the offense, uses insulting words, or sets a punishment that even they themselves cannot later carry out.

“A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.” Prov. 15:1

Practical application: when you feel that you are losing self-control, pause first. Say, “I am upset; I need to calm down, and then we will talk.” After that, briefly explain what was wrong, what the logical consequence will be, and how to act rightly next time. Correct the action, but do not label the child: not “you are bad,” but “this action was wrong.”

Combine warmth with clear boundaries

Ellen White warned against blind indulgence: “True love is shown not by indulging a child, but by faithfully training him” (“Child Guidance,” chapter “Blind Affection Is Not Love”).

A child needs the assurance that they are loved unconditionally. At the same time, they need clear rules: when bedtime is, how to use gadgets, how to speak to others, and what household responsibilities they have. Boundaries should not change depending on the parents’ mood. Consistency creates a sense of security.

“For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.” Heb 12:6

God’s correction is not cruelty; it is directed toward a person’s good. In the same way, parental discipline should be understandable, fair, and appropriate to the child’s age. Its purpose is not to demonstrate adult power, but to teach a child to use freedom wisely.

Conclusion: build a home where Christ is seen

Christian child rearing takes place every day: at breakfast, on the road, after conflict, during family prayer, and in ordinary household tasks. Children do not need flawless parents. They need parents who love God, acknowledge their mistakes, maintain wise boundaries, and lead the family to Christ again and again.

A practical step for today: choose one short family tradition—evening prayer, reading one Bible text, or three minutes of talking about what each person is thankful to God for. Faithfulness in small things can make the home a place of peace, trust, and spiritual growth.

[169
post-9626","answers","type-answers","status-publish","hentry","answer_topic-ellen-white-2
["GET
