God promised David that his descendant would reign forever. In Isaiah chapter 11, this future King is called both a “Branch” from the root of Jesse and the “Root of Jesse.” He comes from David’s line as a man, yet at the same time He is greater than David, for in Him is the source of life, hope, and salvation.

Christians see in this prophecy Jesus Christ. He is the promised Messiah, who was born in David’s line and became a “banner” — a visible sign of God’s salvation for all nations.

“And in that day there shall be a Root of Jesse, who shall stand as a banner to the people; for the Gentiles shall seek Him, and His resting place shall be glorious.” Isa 11:10

The apostle Paul directly applies these words to Christ’s ministry and the acceptance of the Gentiles into God’s people. Therefore, the prophecy is not limited to ancient Israel: Jesus calls to Himself people of every nation, language, and background.

“And again, Isaiah says: ‘There shall be a root of Jesse; and He who shall rise to reign over the Gentiles, in Him the Gentiles shall hope.’” Rom 15:12

What does the word “rest” mean?

In this verse, the word “rest” has a broader meaning than simply silence after work or the absence of anxiety. It can mean a resting place, a dwelling, the place where the King abides. Therefore, the expression can be rendered as: “His dwelling shall be glorious” or “the place of His presence shall be filled with glory.”

For the biblical person, God’s glory is not only beauty or solemnity. It is the real presence of God, His holiness, love, power, and salvation. Where Christ is present as King, the consequences of sin are undone: hostility, violence, fear, and death. His “rest” is glorious because in it God’s character is fully revealed.

Isaiah describes this future world in the language of reconciled creation. It is a picture not of a human political utopia, but of God’s restoration.

“They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain, for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.” Isa 11:9

Christ’s rest is peace founded on righteousness

Biblical peace, or shalom, is the wholeness of life under God’s rule. It does not mean that God simply overlooks evil. On the contrary, the Messiah judges righteously, defends the weak, and exposes falsehood. That is why His peace is firm and glorious.

At the beginning of the chapter, Isaiah says that the Spirit of the Lord will rest upon the Messiah, and that His rule will be marked by righteousness and faithfulness.

“He shall judge the poor with righteousness, and decide with equity for the meek of the earth… Righteousness shall be the belt of His loins, and faithfulness the belt of His waist.” Isa 11:4-5

Therefore, “His resting place shall be glorious” does not promise an escape from reality. It is the promise of a world cleansed by God’s truth. Christ brings peace through victory over sin. In His sacrifice, He reconciles believers to God, and in the future He will finally restore all creation.

Already now and in fullness at the Second Coming

The prophecy has both a present and a future dimension. Even today, people from different nations come to Christ by faith. In Him they find forgiveness, reconciliation with God, and inner peace. Jesus assured His disciples that He gives a kind of peace different from what the world offers.

“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” John 14:27

However, the full picture of Isaiah 11 still lies ahead. From the Adventist understanding, it will be finally fulfilled after Christ’s return and the restoration of the earth. Then God’s glory will fill the new creation, and sin, suffering, and death will have no place anymore.

Ellen White also emphasized that God’s plan of salvation will conclude with the full restoration of what was lost through sin. The eternal home of the redeemed will not be a bleak wasteland, but a glorious place of God’s presence.

Hope for our life

Therefore, the words “His resting place shall be glorious” mean this: Christ’s kingdom, His dwelling, and His rule will be filled with God’s presence, peace, and beauty. The nations come to Him as their Savior, and in Him they find a true home.

The practical application is simple: when anxiety, conflict, or uncertainty rob us of peace, we should turn again to Christ, the “banner for the peoples.” Ask Him to dwell in your heart, be reconciled to God through prayer, build peace in your family and church, and live with hope in His soon coming. Where Christ has authority, His rest already begins to reveal God’s glory.

# Исаия 11:10
¹⁰ И будет в тот день: к корню Иессееву, который станет как знамя для народов, обратятся язычники, — и покой его будет слава
что значит покой слава?
172
post-9615","answers","type-answers","status-publish","hentry","answer_topic-prophecy-2
["GET
