The first Lord is God the Father. The second is “my Lord,” that is, the Messiah, whom David acknowledges as his Sovereign. For an Israelite king to call someone his Lord meant recognizing His higher authority. Therefore, this text shows that the promised Messiah could not be merely an ordinary earthly king or only a descendant of David.

“The Lord said to my Lord, ‘Sit at My right hand, till I make Your enemies Your footstool.’” Ps. 110:1

Jesus Himself applied this psalm to Himself. He asked the religious teachers how the Messiah could be David’s son if David calls Him Lord. In this way Christ revealed that the Messiah has not only a human origin from the line of David, but also heavenly, divine dignity.

“If David then calls Him Lord, how is He his Son?” Matt 22:45

What does “sit at My right hand” mean?

In biblical language, “the right hand” is an image of the highest honor, authority, and acceptance. This does not mean that the Father and the Son are confined to human locations in space. It means that the risen Christ was solemnly exalted and received the fullness of kingly authority. After His resurrection and ascension, Jesus began a special ministry for the salvation of His people.

The apostle Peter explained that this psalm was fulfilled in Christ’s ascension. David himself did not ascend into heaven, but he prophesied about the One who would conquer death and reign at God’s right hand.

“For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he himself says: ‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at My right hand.”’” Acts 2:34

From the Adventist perspective, this is also connected with the heavenly sanctuary. Christ is not merely resting after His earthly work: He is our great High Priest, who presents before the Father the merits of His perfect sacrifice. His heavenly ministry gives believers assurance of forgiveness, mercy, and access to God.

“We have such a High Priest, who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens.” Hebrews 8:1

Who are Christ’s enemies?

The image of enemies being made a “footstool” means complete subjection to Christ’s authority. In the ancient world, this was a symbol of a king’s victory over his opponent. However, the Bible does not allow us to reduce the meaning of the psalm only to political or national victories. The deepest enemies of God’s kingdom are sin, Satan, death, and all forces that rise up against God’s love and truth.

The victory was already won by Christ on the cross, but its final consequences are still being revealed in history. Jesus reigns now, although evil is still active in the world. That is why Christians live not in despair, but in expectation of the full manifestation of Christ’s victory.

“For He must reign till He has put all His enemies under His feet. The last enemy that will be destroyed is death.” 1 Cor 15:25-26

The connection with the Second Coming

The word “until” does not mean any doubt in God’s plan. It points to the time appointed by God when the struggle between good and evil will end. At the Second Coming, Christ will openly reveal the reign that is now often hidden from human eyes. Then His judgment will be just, and death and suffering will not have the last word.

Ellen White repeatedly emphasized that Christ’s ministry in the heavenly sanctuary is inseparably connected with the conclusion of the great controversy between Christ and Satan. For her, Christ is not a distant Ruler, but a living Savior and Intercessor, who is preparing His people to meet Him.

Hope and practical application

Therefore, this verse declares: Jesus Christ is Lord, exalted at the Father’s right hand; He ministers for our salvation and will surely put an end to sin, death, and satanic rebellion. The believer does not need to wait for future victory in passivity. Today one may surrender one’s own heart to Christ: turn away from known sin, entrust anxiety to Him in prayer, live by His Word, and wait with hope for His glorious return.

# Псалтирь 109:1
¹ Сказал Господь Господу моему: седи одесную Меня, доколе положу врагов Твоих в подножие ног Твоих
о чем говорится в этом стихе. до 10 предложений
173
post-9614","answers","type-answers","status-publish","hentry","answer_topic-second-coming-2
["GET
