God is Creator, Lawgiver, and Judge; therefore history does not move chaotically, and evil will not have the last word. It means that life, moral order, and final judgment exist for the revelation of God\u2019s righteousness, love, mercy, and truth.<\/p>\n \u201cThe Lord has made all for His own purpose, even the wicked for the day of trouble.\u201d Prov. 16:4<\/a><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n The word \u201cwicked\u201d describes not a person whom God forced to do evil, but one who by his own choice opposes God\u2019s will. The Lord created man with the ability to love, trust, and respond freely to His grace. Without freedom of choice, there would be neither real love nor real responsibility.<\/p>\n The Bible firmly rejects the idea that God tempts a person to evil or creates him sinful in order to punish him. Sin arises when a created being turns away from the good he knows and chooses his own way. The human heart may justify its guilt by circumstances, heredity, or even God\u2019s will, but Scripture places moral responsibility on the one who does evil.<\/p>\n \u201cLet no one say when he is tempted, \u2018I am tempted by God\u2019; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone.\u201d James 1:13<\/a><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n Therefore, Proverbs 16:4 does not support fatalism\u2014the view that a person\u2019s destiny is predetermined without his personal decision. The Lord knows the end from the beginning, but His foreknowledge is not compulsion. He can turn even the consequences of human rebellion to the establishment of truth and justice, yet He never approves evil itself.<\/p>\n The expression \u201cday of trouble\u201d points to the time when evil will stand before God\u2019s judgment. The wicked may for a time appear successful, and falsehood may seem victorious, but God\u2019s patience does not mean indifference. Judgment is necessary not because God seeks revenge, but because He loves truth, defends the oppressed, and will not allow sin to destroy life forever.<\/p>\n The apostle Paul explains that God\u2019s goodness is meant to lead a person not to self-confidence, but to repentance.<\/p>\n \u201cOr do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?\u201d Rom. 2:4<\/a><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n God\u2019s justice and God\u2019s mercy do not contradict one another. He does not call sin good, but He gives the sinner an opportunity to leave sin. Final condemnation is the result of persistent rejection of light, not God\u2019s desire to get rid of a person.<\/p>\n Through the prophet Ezekiel, the Lord plainly reveals His attitude toward the sinner. He does not delight in the death of the wicked; His call is to turn back, leave the destructive path, and live. This is an important key to rightly understanding Proverbs 16:4: God\u2019s judgment is real, but God\u2019s grace precedes judgment and calls to repentance.<\/p>\n \u201cDo I really have any pleasure in the death of the wicked,\u201d says the Lord God, \u201cand not rather that he should turn from his ways and live?\u201d Ezek. 18:23<\/a><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n This truth is also consistent with the New Testament testimony about God's longsuffering.
