A person is saved by the grace of Jesus Christ, but is called to care for the body and strength entrusted to them in order to serve God and others better. Food should be part of Christian responsibility, not a reason for fear, judging others, or legalism.

"Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God!" 1 Cor 10:31

The Bible also warns against excess. Even good food, if eaten without measure, can become harmful. This principle also applies to sweets, sugary drinks, baked goods, and other foods with added sugar.

"It is not good to eat much honey, nor is it glory to seek one's own glory." Prov. 25:27

What exactly did Ellen White write about sugar

Ellen G. White spoke especially critically about "large quantities" of sugar. In her time, it was common to add generous amounts of both milk and sugar to porridge, desserts, and drinks. It was this combination that she repeatedly regarded as difficult to digest.

In the book Counsels on Health she writes: "Large quantities of milk and sugar eaten together are injurious. They impart impurities to the system... Sugar clogs the system. It hinders the working of the living machine" (Counsels on Health, p. 149). Elsewhere she notes that excess sugar "causes the digestive organs to become enfeebled and affects the brain" (Counsels on Health, p. 150).

These words should be read honestly and in their historical context. The phrase "clogs the system" is nineteenth-century language, not a modern medical diagnosis. It does not support myths about "toxins" or questionable detox programs. White's main point is simple: too much sweetness does not support the healthy functioning of the body.

At the same time, she did not teach that a small amount of sugar makes a person unclean before God or that every dessert is a sin. Her warning concerns constant, generous, and uncontrolled consumption.

How to evaluate foods that contain sugar

It is helpful to distinguish between natural and added sugars. Fruits contain natural sugars, but together with fiber, water, vitamins, and trace elements. Therefore, a whole fruit is not the same as candy or sweet soda. By contrast, foods worth limiting include sugary drinks, energy drinks, candy, cookies, cakes, sweet cereals, glazed curd snacks, sweet yogurts, and many prepared sauces.

Modern science generally confirms the practical direction of Ellen White's counsel: regular excessive consumption of added sugar can contribute to excess body weight, tooth decay, fluctuations in blood glucose levels, and an increased risk of metabolic disorders. Sugary drinks are especially undesirable because they provide a lot of sugar but satisfy very little.

However, each person has individual circumstances: age, physical activity, weight, pregnancy, diabetes, medications, and other health conditions. If there is diabetes, prediabetes, or an eating disorder, it is wise to consult a physician or a qualified dietitian rather than relying only on general recommendations.

Moderation instead of extremes

The Christian approach is not to replace dependence on sweets with dependence on strict rules. Food is God's gift, but it should not rule a person. Paul expressed this principle in this way:

"All things are lawful for me, but not all things are beneficial. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be mastered by anything." 1 Cor 6:12

Ellen White consistently advised choosing simple, nourishing food and avoiding extremes. Healthy eating should not be a monotonous punishment. It can include whole grains, legumes, vegetables, fruits, nuts, and seeds, prepared simply and tastefully. When such foods form the basis of the diet, the craving for excessive sweets often naturally decreases.

Practical application

Begin not with a radical ban, but with one realistic step for the coming week: replace sugary drinks with water, do not add sugar to one daily cup of tea or coffee, or choose fruit instead of your usual candy. Read labels and pay attention to added sugar in products that seem "healthy." Pray for self-control and thank God for the opportunity to care for the body without fear and without condemnation. Moderation in sweets can be a quiet, practical way to do everything for God's glory.

[168
post-9590","answers","type-answers","status-publish","hentry","answer_topic-health-2
["GET
