It is a life in union with Jesus, who Himself was rejected by the world but overcame through love and self-sacrifice.<\/p>\n In the apostle\u2019s list are imprisonments, beatings, shipwrecks, dangerous journeys, hunger, cold, and constant weariness. These were not random troubles or the result of irresponsible behavior. Paul endured because he preached Jesus as the crucified and risen Lord, and salvation as God\u2019s gift for all people, regardless of origin or status.<\/p>\n \u201cIn labors more abundant, in prisons more frequent, in stripes beyond measure, often near death. Not all Christians experience physical persecution. Yet faithfulness to God may bring misunderstanding in the family, ridicule at school or at work, the loss of certain opportunities, loneliness because of moral choices, or pressure to compromise biblical convictions.<\/p>\n \u201cThree times I was beaten with rods; once I was stoned; three times I suffered shipwreck; a night and a day I have been in the deep; in journeys often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils from my own countrymen, in perils from the Gentiles, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren.\u201d 2 Cor 11:25\u201326<\/a><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n Suffering for Christ does not mean every kind of pain that happens in life. Illness, the consequences of wrong decisions, or conflicts caused by harshness are not necessarily suffering for the faith. At the same time, a Christian should not seek danger, provoke people, or neglect wisdom. Jesus calls us to be gentle, yet unwavering in faithfulness.<\/p>\n At the end of the list, Paul mentions not only outward dangers, but also his daily concern for the churches. This reveals an important aspect of ministry: sometimes what hurts most is not our own problem, but the spiritual condition of other people. Pastors, parents, ministry leaders, Sabbath School teachers, and all who love the church may carry such a burden in prayer, patient instruction, and compassion.<\/p>\n \u201cIn weariness and toil, in sleeplessness often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness\u2014besides the other things, what comes upon me daily: my deep concern for all the churches.\u201d 2 Cor 11:27\u201328<\/a><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n Such concern is not weakness. It testifies to a heart shaped by Christ. Ellen G. White repeatedly emphasized that the true follower of Jesus serves people sacrificially, without seeking human approval. Love for souls often requires patience, prayer, and a willingness to be misunderstood.<\/p>\n Paul\u2019s experience destroys the idea that God\u2019s blessing always means easy circumstances. God was with the apostle not only after the dangers, but in the midst of them.
