An inheritance is not earned by human effort alone; it is received by those who have been adopted into God’s family through faith. Therefore, blessing is not only material gifts, but above all reconciliation with God, His guidance, a renewed heart, and the hope of the Kingdom of Heaven.

“Not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing.” 1 Pet 3:9

What does the word “inherit” mean

The word “inherit” shows that this is about a portion that belongs to God’s children. In Christ, the believer is no longer a stranger to God, but accepted by Him. That is why the apostle Peter connects a right attitude toward people with a future inheritance: the Christian does not live by revenge, because his true treasure is in God.

“And if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.” Rom 8:17

So, to inherit a blessing means to have a share in what God has prepared for His children. This includes not only future glory, but also present spiritual gifts: forgiveness, peace, power to live a new life, and confidence in God’s love.

What blessing exactly does the Bible mean

In Scripture, blessing is first of all a spiritual reality. A person who belongs to Christ receives a new birth, a living hope, and an imperishable inheritance. This is far more than earthly success or comfort.

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you.” 1 Peter 1:3-4

Here Peter directly explains that the believer’s inheritance is heavenly, pure, and eternal. Therefore, to “inherit a blessing” means to live with your eyes fixed beyond temporary conflicts, offenses, or gains. It is a choice in favor of God’s character and God’s future.

From the Adventist perspective, the fullness of this blessing will be revealed at the Second Coming of Christ, when the saved receive eternal life and the new earth. But even today, the believer has a foretaste of this inheritance through the work of the Holy Spirit.

Why this is connected with our behavior

In 1 Peter 3:9 this truth sounds in a very practical context: not repaying evil for evil. Why? Because God’s child is called to carry a different spirit. The one who waits for God’s blessing learns even now to live as a citizen of God’s Kingdom.

“Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.” Matt. 5:5

Jesus shows that the inheritance belongs not to the aggressive and vengeful, but to the meek. This does not mean weakness; it means trust in God. A Christian can refuse revenge because he knows his future is in God’s hands.

Ellen White also emphasized that true blessing is connected with a character shaped by grace. God is preparing His people not only to receive the Kingdom, but also to be fit for it. Therefore, blessing is both a gift and a process of sanctification.

Is this only about the future life

No. Although the highest blessing is eternal life, God blesses His children even now. He gives peace in the midst of difficulties, wisdom in making choices, support in grief, and strength to forgive. Yet the Bible does not reduce blessing to material prosperity. Sometimes a person may go through trials and still remain an heir of God’s promises.

“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” Matt. 6:33

So, to inherit a blessing does not necessarily mean to live without problems. It means having God’s presence now and God’s inheritance in eternity. The greatest blessing is Christ Himself and salvation in Him.

Conclusion.

To inherit a blessing is to receive from God what He has prepared for His children: forgiveness, new life, peace, spiritual transformation, and ultimately the eternal Kingdom. That is why the believer is called not to revenge, but to bless others. When we refuse evil and hold fast to Christ, we choose not a short victory in an argument, but an eternal inheritance with God.

Practically, this means: today, in the middle of offense or conflict, ask yourself not “how can I answer more forcefully,” but “how can I act as a child of God?” Pray for a heart that blesses, trust God’s justice, and remember that your true inheritance is in Christ.

[147
post-9499","answers","type-answers","status-publish","hentry","answer_topic-salvation
["GET
