\"The millennium\" and the \"Battle of Armageddon\" are two terms that constantly appear in conversations about the end of the world.<\/b> Many people think they are almost synonyms, or that Armageddon is a \"battle lasting a thousand years.\" The Bible says otherwise \u2014 and gives a very specific sequence of events. Here is a biblical look at these two concepts, how they relate to the Second Coming of Christ, and why this matters for us today.<\/p>\nWhat the Bible says about the Battle of Armageddon<\/h2>\n
The word \"Armageddon\" is mentioned in the Bible only once<\/b>:<\/p>\n \"And they gathered them together to the place which in Hebrew is called Armageddon.\" Rev. 16:16<\/a><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n Only once. Everything else is interpretation of that one mention.<\/p>\n The word \"Armageddon\" is the Greek form of the Hebrew name \"Har-Megiddo,\" which means \"Mount Megiddo<\/b>.\" This is a specific geographic location in Israel \u2014 the plain near Mount Megiddo in the Jezreel Valley. Historically, many battles took place there (Deborah with Barak, Josiah, etc.).<\/p>\n Revelation describes the context:<\/p>\n \"And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs coming out of the mouth of the dragon, out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. For they are spirits of demons, performing signs, which go out to the kings of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.\" Rev. 16:13\u201314<\/a><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n That is, Armageddon is:<\/p>\n That is, Armageddon is not \u201cWorld War III\u201d in the usual sense. It is the final attempt of the forces of darkness to defeat God<\/b>. And, as the Bible goes on to show, that attempt will fail instantly.<\/p>\n The Bible describes its outcome very briefly:<\/p>\n \u201cAnd He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS. \u2026 And I saw the beast, the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against Him who sat on the horse and against His army. Then the beast was captured\u2026 and both were cast alive into the lake of fire.\u201d Rev. 19:16\u201320<\/a><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n That is, Armageddon ends in an instant<\/b>, as soon as Christ appears. It is not a \u201cbattle.\u201d It is the surrender of darkness before the Light.<\/p>\n This is a separate topic. He laid hold of the dragon, that serpent of old, who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years; and he cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal on him, so that he should deceive the nations no more till the thousand years were finished.\u201d Rev. 20:1\u20133<\/a><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n Key points:<\/p>\n And what about people?<\/p>\n \u201cAnd I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was committed to them\u2026 And they lived and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.\u201d Rev. 20:4<\/a><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n That is, the Millennium is a thousand-year period<\/b> between the Second Coming of Christ and the final judgment, during which:<\/p>\n So as not to be confused, here is the general biblical sequence:<\/p>\n This sequence is important because many people confuse what happens when<\/i>.<\/p>\n This is a question on which there are different views among Christian denominations. Biblically, the most consistent model is this:<\/p>\n This follows from several texts:<\/p>\n It is not \u201cjust time.\u201d The Bible gives two purposes:<\/p>\n \u201cDo you not know that the saints will judge the world? ... Do you not know that we shall judge angels?\u201d 1 Cor. 6:2\u20133<\/a><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n The righteous take part in the review of cases. This does not mean they \u201cdecide\u201d what will happen to someone \u2014 God has already decided. It is a confirmation of God\u2019s justice<\/b>. Everyone will be able to see why God decided as He did. Not \u201csecretly,\u201d but openly before all.<\/p>\n The millennium means that God does not hurry. He gives time for everything to become clear. Satan is not \u201cinstantly destroyed\u201d \u2014 he is bound, powerless, and everyone sees what the world looks like without deception.
