\u201cThe end of the world\u201d is a topic discussed in the news, in movies, and in conversations over tea.<\/b> War, climate disasters, pandemics, political crises\u2014many people feel that \u201cthe end is near.\u201d The Bible really does speak about the end of the world\u2014but it gives a much deeper picture than simply \u201ccatastrophe.\u201d Here are the biblical signs of the last days, how to recognize them without panic, what will happen on the Day of the Lord, and what those who are watching events should realistically expect.<\/p>\nDoes the Bible actually speak about the \u201cend of the world\u201d?<\/h2>\n
Yes, directly and often. Jesus Himself devoted a separate major discourse to this topic (Matt. 24, Mark 13, Luke 21). The disciples asked Him:<\/p>\n
\u201cTell us, when will these things happen? And what will be the sign of Your coming and of the end of the age?\u201d Matt. 24:3<\/a><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
And Jesus did not say, \u201cDon\u2019t ask.\u201d He answered in detail. That means God wants us to know the signs<\/b>, not sit in darkness.<\/p>\n
But this is important: in the Bible, the \u201cend of the world\u201d is not the \u201cdestruction of the planet,\u201d but the end of the present order<\/b>, after which \u201ca new heaven and a new earth\u201d will begin (Rev. 21:1). This is beginning<\/i>, not only an end.<\/p>\n
Signs of the last days \u2014 what Jesus said<\/h2>\n
In Matthew 24, Jesus named specific signs. Let us look at them one by one.<\/p>\n
1. Wars and rumors of wars<\/h3>\n
\u201cAnd you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.\u201d Matt. 24:6\u20137<\/a><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
There have always been wars. But as the end draws near, they increase<\/b> \u2014 in number, in intensity, and in terrible consequences. The 20th and 21st centuries have seen two world wars and dozens of local conflicts on a scale humanity had never known before. The current war in Ukraine is part of this.<\/p>\n
Notice Jesus\u2019 key word: \u201cdo not be troubled\u201d<\/b>. Wars are a sign, but not the end. Today is not Armageddon yet.<\/p>\n
2. Famines, pestilences, earthquakes<\/h3>\n
\u201cAnd there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows.\u201d Matt. 24:7\u20138<\/a><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Epidemics, climate disasters, earthquakes, humanitarian crises \u2014 these are also signs. Not \u201cfor the first time in history,\u201d but with increasing intensity.<\/p>\n
The image of \u201cbirth pains\u201d is very accurate: the end of the world is not instantaneous, but comes in waves that grow more frequent and more intense<\/b>. Like before childbirth.<\/p>\n
3. Persecution of Christians<\/h3>\n
\u201cThen they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name\u2019s sake.\u201d Matt. 24:9<\/a><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
More Christians died for their faith in the 20th century than in all previous centuries combined. Today believers are persecuted in China, North Korea, and Muslim countries. This is a sign.<\/p>\n
4. Many will be offended and betray one another<\/h3>\n
\u201cAnd then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another.\u201d Matt. 24:10<\/a><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Apostasy is a massive falling away from the faith, even among those who seemed \u201cfaithful.\u201d Family betrayals, church divisions, spiritual coldness.<\/p>\n
5. Countless false prophets<\/h3>\n
\u201cThen many false prophets will rise up and deceive many.\u201d Matt. 24:11<\/a><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Today is the age of false prophets. Thousands of \u201cgurus,\u201d \u201cexperts,\u201d \u201cmessiahs,\u201d and YouTube preachers with invented \u201crevelations.\u201d The Bible warns: be careful whom you listen to<\/b>.<\/p>\n
6. The love of many will grow cold<\/h3>\n
\u201cAnd because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold.\u201d Matt. 24:12<\/a><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Modern culture is individualistic, cynical, and weary. Kindness is becoming rare. Families are breaking apart. Neighbors do not know one another.<\/p>\n
7. The gospel will be preached to all nations<\/h3>\n
\u201cAnd this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come!\u201d Matt. 24:14<\/a><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
This is the main<\/b> sign. As soon as the gospel reaches every nation, the end will come. Today, with the internet, Bible translations into thousands of languages, and media missions, we are closer to this than ever before.<\/p>\n
What is NOT a sign of the end<\/h2>\n
The Bible warns against two mistakes:<\/p>\n
1. \"Seeing the end in every event\"<\/h3>\n
Every generation of believers has considered its time to be the \"last.\" And that is normal\u2014the signs are always present. But not every war is Armageddon<\/b>. Not every pandemic is the end. The Bible warns against panic.<\/p>\n
2. \"Knowing the exact date\"<\/h3>\n
\"But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone.\" Matt 24:36<\/a><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
No one knows the exact date. Every \"prophet\" who says \"in 2027\" or \"in 2030\" is deceiving. Jesus Himself said that even He did not know the time!<\/p>\n
What the Second Coming will be like<\/h2>\n
