For a Christian, this is not just a beautiful phrase, but the foundation of faith, hope, and life.

The direct text

"Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved." Acts 4:12

In the previous verse Peter directly names whom he is speaking about:

"By the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead — by Him this man stands here before you whole!" Acts 4:10

At the center of this statement stands the person of Jesus Christ — the crucified, risen, living Savior. Peter is not speaking about some impersonal force or moral system—he is testifying about a specific Lord.

Context: why Peter said this

Acts 3 describes the miracle of the healing of a man lame from birth. The people were amazed, and Peter explained that the healing happened not by human power, but through faith in the name of Jesus (Acts 3:16). This stirred the displeasure of the religious leaders.

When Peter was asked: "By what power or by what name have you done this?" (Acts 4:7), he, filled with the Holy Spirit, clearly testified about Jesus. In biblical thought, a name is connected with the person, authority, character, and mission. Therefore, salvation in the name of Jesus means salvation through Christ Himself — through His sacrifice, righteousness, and intercessory ministry.

What "there is no other name" means

This verse affirms the exclusivity of Christ. It leaves no room for the idea, as though there were many equally valid ways to God. Jesus Himself said:

"I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." John 14:6

The apostle Paul adds:

"For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus." 1 Tim. 2:5

This text directs attention not to the church, not to human merits, not to religious forms — but to Christ alone. The name Jesus means "The Lord saves"—and this is the essence of the gospel message:

"And you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins." Matt. 1:21

"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." John 3:16

"And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. But Acts 4:12 brings us back to biblical reality: humanity's problem is sin, and the solution is Christ. Good works are important as the fruit of faith, but they cannot redeem guilt.

This verse gives assurance: if salvation depended on our perfection, no one would stand. But since it is grounded in the name of Jesus, the one who repents has hope:

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9

What this means for you

This verse calls us not merely to know the right quotation, but to personally trust in the Lord.
