Zechariah 4 is an encouraging vision for a time when God\u2019s work seems small, slow, and weak.<\/b> The people were few, and the enemies were powerful. It is precisely in such a situation that the Lord reveals a truth important for all time: God\u2019s work is accomplished not by human strength, but by the power of the Holy Spirit<\/i>.<\/p>\nVerses 1\u20135: the awakening of the prophet and the vision of the lampstand<\/h2>\n
In verse 1 the angel awakens Zechariah\u2014this shows that spiritual understanding comes not simply through attentiveness, but through divine revelation<\/i>.<\/p>\n
In verse 2 the prophet sees a golden lampstand, a bowl on top, seven lamps, and pipes supplying oil. The image recalls the sanctuary: the lampstand symbolizes God\u2019s people as the bearer of light<\/b>. The seven lamps signify the fullness and perfection of God\u2019s action (cf. Rev. 1:20).<\/p>\n
In verses 4\u20135 Zechariah honestly admits that he does not understand the vision. True knowledge begins with humility.<\/b> Whoever is ready to say to God, \u201cI do not know,\u201d receives instruction from above.<\/p>\n \u201cNot by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,\u201d says the Lord of hosts. Zech. 4:6<\/a><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n This word is to Zerubbabel, the leader of the temple rebuilding. God says: the completion of the work depends not on political power, not on human energy, not on material resources<\/i>, but on the work of the Holy Spirit.<\/p>\n As it says in Acts 1:8: \u201cyou shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you\u201d<\/i>. Ellen White wrote that in God\u2019s final work, success depends not on outward splendor, but on anointing by the Spirit<\/b>.<\/p>\n \u201cWho are you, O great mountain? Before Zerubbabel you shall become a plain!\u201d Zech 4:7<\/a><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n The mountain symbolizes obstacles: opposition from enemies, the people\u2019s inner weakness, fear, lack of resources. But before God\u2019s purpose, any mountain becomes a plain<\/b>.<\/p>\n Verses 8\u20139 confirm: \u201cthe hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation... his hands shall also finish it\u201d<\/i>. God completes what He begins (cf. Phil. 1:6).<\/p>\n And verse 10 is especially comforting:<\/p>\n \u201cFor who has despised the day of small things?\u201d Zech 4:10<\/a><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\nVerse 6: the main principle<\/h2>\n
