Jesus Christ was baptized at about 30 years of age as an adult, in fulfillment of \"all righteousness.\"<\/b> In the New Testament, there is not a single example of infant baptism\u2014all the cases described concern people who heard the preaching, believed, and consciously made a decision. This shows that baptism in the Bible is not a magical ritual, but a personal covenant with God<\/i>.<\/p>\n

How old was Jesus at His baptism<\/h2>\n

\u201cNow Jesus Himself began His ministry at about thirty years of age.\u201d Luke 3:23<\/a><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Immediately before this, Jesus' baptism by John in the Jordan is described. Jesus did not need repentance\u2014He was sinless\u2014but He chose to be baptized in order to give an example of obedience:<\/p>\n

What does baptism mean in the New Testament<\/h2>\n

In the New Testament, baptism is connected with an inner turning to God<\/b>. Almost always it is preceded by faith, repentance, and a personal decision:<\/p>\n

\"Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins.\" Acts 2:38<\/a><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\u201cHe who believes and is baptized will be saved.\u201d Mark 16:16<\/a><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

In all these texts, the order is always the same<\/i>: first faith and repentance, then baptism. Paul explains the spiritual meaning:<\/p>\n

\"Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead… even so we also should walk in newness of life.\" Rom. 6:4<\/a><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Baptism symbolizes the death of the old life and the beginning of a new life with Christ<\/b>. Such a step assumes personal faith and an understanding of what is happening.<\/p>\n
