\u201cBaptism by blood\u201d is an image of Golgotha.<\/b> From the very beginning, Christ\u2019s mission was directed toward the cross. His ministry, miracles, and preaching were not ends in themselves\u2014they led to the central event: the atoning death for the sins of humanity<\/i>. The Bible explains this truth through several powerful images\u2014baptism of suffering, the Lamb of God, and the substitutionary sacrifice.<\/p>\nBaptism of suffering: an image of Golgotha<\/h2>\n
In the Bible, the word \u201cbaptism\u201d sometimes means not only a water rite, but also an image of complete immersion in trial<\/b>:<\/p>\n \u201cBut I have a baptism to be baptized with, and how distressed I am till it is accomplished!\u201d Luke 12:50<\/a><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n Jesus had already been baptized by John in the Jordan\u2014here it speaks of another baptism, the cross<\/i>. It was a \u201cbaptism by blood\u201d\u2014complete immersion in suffering for the sake of people\u2019s salvation.<\/p>\n \u201cAre you able to drink the cup that I drink, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?\u201d Mark 10:38<\/a><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n The cup and baptism here mean suffering and sacrifice<\/b>. Christ knew that rejection, an unjust trial, scourging, and crucifixion awaited Him ahead. And yet He consciously walked this path<\/i>. It was not a tragic coincidence of circumstances, but the voluntary fulfillment of the plan of salvation<\/b>.<\/p>\n When John the Baptist saw Jesus, he said:<\/p>\n \u201cBehold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!\u201d John 1:29<\/a><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n These words are directly connected with the Old Testament sacrificial system<\/i>. In the sanctuary, the sacrificial lamb symbolically took upon itself the sinner\u2019s sin. The sacrifice pointed to the coming Messiah.<\/p>\n The prophet Isaiah, long before Christ\u2019s birth, described His mission:<\/p>\n \u201cHe was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities… and the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.\u201d Isa. 53:5\u20136<\/a><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n The apostle Peter later explained this very clearly:<\/p>\nthe Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world<\/h2>\n
