The Bible does not contain the phrase \"God created time\"\u2014but it consistently shows that time began together with creation, and that God existed before any time.<\/b> \u201cIn the beginning\u201d is not merely a poetic opening, but a theological statement that time has a beginning and that the One who began it is not Himself limited by time<\/i>.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the beginning\u201d is the starting point of time<\/h2>\n

\u201cIn the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.\u201d Gen. 1:1<\/a><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\u201cIn the beginning\u201d (Heb. \u05d1\u05b0\u05bc\u05e8\u05b5\u05d0\u05e9\u05b4\u05c1\u0596\u05d9\u05ea \u2014 *bere\u0161it*) means an absolute beginning. Before that\u2014there was neither earth, nor human history, nor the change of days. If there is a \u201cbeginning,\u201d then there is also a starting point of time. The act of creation sets in motion the sequence of events<\/b>: days, years, generations.<\/p>\n

God is not limited by this time\u2014He initiated it:<\/p>\n

\u201cBefore the mountains were brought forth, or ever You had formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.\u201d Ps 90:2<\/a><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The apostle John: \u201cIn the beginning was the Word\u201d<\/h2>\n

\u201cIn the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God... All things were made through Him.\u201d John 1:1\u20133<\/a><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

John deliberately repeats the opening of Genesis: \u201cIn the beginning.\u201d Everything that exists\u2014including time\u2014came into being through Christ as the Word of God. Creation is an act of the Trinity<\/b>, and time is part of what came into existence within it.<\/p>\n

God established the structure of time<\/h2>\n

God not only initiated time\u2014He gave it structure. The weekly cycle, especially the seventh-day Sabbath, reflects this structure:<\/p>\n

\u201cFor in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day.\u201d Exod 20:11<\/a><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The week is not a natural phenomenon (unlike the day and the month, which are determined by the movement of heavenly bodies). It is an institution established by God<\/b>. The Sabbath is a weekly memorial of creation and a reminder: the Lord of time is the One who is the Author of time.<\/p>\n

Practical meaning<\/h2>\n

Understanding that God is the Author of time changes our attitude toward it:<\/p>\n

  • Time is not an enemy or a resource that people \u201cmanage.\u201d It is a gift from the Creator.<\/li>\n
  • The Sabbath as a pause in time is not a loss, but God\u2019s invitation to meet with Him.<\/li>\n
  • Eternity is not endless time, but another mode of existence beyond it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
