The church may preach correct doctrines, preserve faithful tradition, and at the same time gradually lose its living connection with Christ Himself.<\/b> It was precisely about this danger that Ellen White wrote: the church's greatest need is not merely knowledge of the truth, but the living presence of Jesus through the Holy Spirit<\/i>.<\/p>\n

One may know the truth and still not see Christ<\/h2>\n

\"They have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid Him.\" John 20:13<\/a><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Mary Magdalene was weeping by the empty tomb\u2014and the Risen One was standing beside her. She did not recognize Him. This scene contains a profound lesson: one can be near Christ and not realize His presence<\/b>.<\/p>\n

Something similar can happen to a congregation. One may know the prophecies, preserve correct doctrines, follow the order of worship\u2014and at the same time \"lose sight of Christ.\" Not through betrayal, but through a gradual cooling of the living connection.<\/p>\n

Christ warned about this<\/h2>\n

\"Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love.\" Rev. 2:4<\/a><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The church in Ephesus from the letters of Revelation is exemplary from the doctrinal point of view: \"I know your works, your labor, your patience... and that you cannot bear those who are evil.\" But Christ still addressed it with a warning: you have left your first love<\/i>. What is correct is there. What is living is not.<\/p>\n

Why Christ at the center is more important than correct words<\/h2>\n

Doctrine is words about Christ. But a living relationship is an encounter with Christ Himself<\/b>. The difference between them is the same as between reading a description of a person and meeting that person.<\/p>\n

Jesus said to the disciples:<\/p>\n

\"Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.\" John 15:4<\/a><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\"To abide\" does not mean \"to know about Christ,\" but \"to be with Him.\" Daily, in prayer, through the Word, in worship, and in service.<\/p>\n

Practical meaning<\/h2>\n

For the church congregation and for every believer\u2014the practical question is:<\/p>\n

  • Is there room in my theology for meetings<\/i> \u2014 or only for knowledge<\/i>?<\/li>\n
  • Is my prayer a conversation, or the performance of a ritual?<\/li>\n
  • Is Christ the center of my heart, and not merely the correct answer on an exam?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Correct doctrine describes Christ. But only a living connection with Him gives strength, peace, and fruit.
