But James chooses Elijah precisely\u2014and immediately adds something that may surprise us:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cElijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months.\u201d <cite><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=James+5%3A17&amp;version=UKR\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">James 5:17<\/a><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2>Why James emphasizes Elijah\u2019s humanity<\/h2>\n<p>\u201cWith a nature like ours\u201d \u2014 the Greek expression means \u201cequally subject to suffering, equally human.\u201d <b>Elijah had the same fears, weariness, and despair that we do.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The proof is in the Bible itself. After the victory over the prophets of Baal, Elijah flees into the wilderness and asks for death: \u201cIt is enough! Now, Lord, take my life\u201d (1 Kings 19:4). This is not the behavior of a superhuman. This is a person at the limit.<\/p>\n<p>James deliberately reminds us of this so that the reader will not think: \u201cElijah could pray like that because he was a prophet, but I am an ordinary person.\u201d <b>Elijah was an ordinary human being. The difference was in whom he turned to and with what trust.<\/b><\/p>\n<h2>Elijah\u2019s prayer: characteristics<\/h2>\n<p>\u201cHe prayed earnestly\u201d \u2014 in the Greek original this is an intensification: literally, \u201cpraying, he prayed.\u201d James emphasizes not some special method, but <b>seriousness and sincerity<\/b> of the appeal. Elijah did not pray by ritual\u2014he prayed with conviction.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe effective prayer of a righteous person has great power.\u201d <cite><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=James+5%3A16&amp;version=UKR\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">James 5:16<\/a><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2>Practical meaning<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>God works through people\u2014people just like you. Not through superhumans.<\/li>\n<li>The great miracles in Scripture are not a display of human power, but a testimony to God\u2019s faithfulness in response to trust.<\/li>\n<li>Your prayer matters\u2014not because you are special, but because God listens to those who come to Him sincerely.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Elijah prayed\u2014and heaven responded.
