It continued in Adam when he wanted to \u201cbe like God.\u201d And it remains one of the most dangerous conditions of the human heart\u2014precisely because it often looks like strength rather than weakness.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\"Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.\" <cite><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Proverbs+16%3A18&amp;version=UKR\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Proverbs 16:18<\/a><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2>Pride: separation from God<\/h2>\n<p>Pride is the conviction that I am the source of my own success, strength, and wisdom. It removes God from the center and puts self in His place. <b>That is why Scripture so consistently condemns pride:<\/b> it is essentially idolatry\u2014self-worship.<\/p>\n<p>In the parable of the Pharisee and the tax collector, Jesus shows both conditions. The Pharisee prays with pride: \u201cI thank You that I am not like other people.\u201d The tax collector prays with humility: \u201cGod, be merciful to me, a sinner!\u201d And Christ says: the tax collector went away justified\u2014the Pharisee did not.<\/p>\n<h2>Humility: openness to God and people<\/h2>\n<blockquote><p>\"God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.\" <cite><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=James+4%3A6&amp;version=UKR\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">James 4:6<\/a><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Humility is not self-destruction or the absence of self-worth. It is <b>a realistic view of oneself in the light of God<\/b>: the understanding that everything I have is a gift, not an achievement; that I depend on God and need others.<\/p>\n<p>The highest example of humility is Christ:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWho, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God; but humbled Himself, taking the form of a servant.\u201d <cite><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Philippians+2%3A6-7&amp;version=UKR\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Philippians 2:6\u20137<\/a><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2>Practical meaning<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Pride retreats where there is a true encounter with God: the one who has seen His majesty cannot remain great in his own eyes.<\/li>\n<li>Humility does not need to be invented\u2014it grows out of gratitude: \u201cWhat do you have that you did not receive?\u201d (1 Cor 4:7).<\/li>\n<li>Check your reaction to another person's praise and to correction from someone\u2014there the true condition of the heart becomes visible.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>God \u201cresists the proud\u201d\u2014not out of cruelty, but because pride closes the heart to the only source of true good.
