On the other side is a rescuer. One may say, \u201cI believe the rope will hold.\u201d One may argue about its quality. But real faith begins only when the person steps onto the rope. Until that moment, it is only thoughts.<\/p>\n<p>This is exactly how Scripture speaks about faith.<\/p>\n<h2>What is biblical faith<\/h2>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cNow faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.\u201d <cite><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Hebrews+11%3A1&amp;version=UKR\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hebrews 11:1<\/a><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThe substance of things hoped for\u201d is not a dream or positive thinking. It is <b>a real inner state grounded in the character of God and His promises.<\/b> To believe God means to regard Him as faithful in what He has said, even if outward circumstances seem to contradict it.<\/p>\n<h2>Three dimensions of biblical faith<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Knowledge (notitia):<\/b> understanding what I believe\u2014who God is, what He has done in Christ.<\/li>\n<li><b>Assent (assensus):<\/b> accepting this as true\u2014not merely \u201cinteresting,\u201d but \u201cthis is so.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><b>Trust (fiducia):<\/b> personal dependence on God\u2014\u201cLord, I rely on You.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>The third dimension is decisive.<\/b> A person may know about God and even agree that He exists\u2014and still not trust Him with real life.<\/p>\n<h2>How faith is manifested<\/h2>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.\u201d <cite><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=James+2%3A17&amp;version=UKR\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">James 2:17<\/a><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>James does not say that works save. He says: <b>living faith is visible in actions.<\/b> The one who truly trusts God lives accordingly. He does not \u201cearn\u201d salvation, but reflects the reality of his encounter with God.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To believe in God\u2019s providence\u2014and not live in chronic fear.<\/li>\n<li>To believe in God\u2019s forgiveness\u2014and not live in chronic guilt.<\/li>\n<li>To believe in the coming of Christ\u2014and to live oriented toward eternity, not only toward what is temporary.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Biblical faith is not a feeling or confidence in one\u2019s own strength.
