Humanity is not \u201cnaturally immortal\u201d \u2014 that is a Greek philosophical idea, not a biblical one.<\/p>\n<h2>Death in the Bible is sleep<\/h2>\n<p>Scripture consistently describes death as a state of unconsciousness, not as the continuation of active existence:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cFor the living know that they will die; but the dead know nothing, and they have no more reward, for the memory of them is forgotten.\u201d <cite><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Ecclesiastes+9:5&amp;version=UKR\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Eccl 9:5<\/a><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Jesus Himself called Lazarus\u2019s death \u201csleep\u201d (John 11:11\u201314). This is not a poetic figure \u2014 it is a description of a state from which one awakens through the resurrection.<\/p>\n<h2>Eternal life \u2014 only through Christ<\/h2>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cHe who believes in the Son has everlasting life.\u201d <cite><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=John+3:36&amp;version=UKR\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">John 3:36<\/a><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Immortality is not the natural state of a person, but a <b>gift received through union with Christ<\/b>. This means that the resurrection is not a metaphor, but a real and necessary event. If the soul were already automatically living forever, the resurrection would make no sense.<\/p>\n<h2>Practical meaning<\/h2>\n<p>This teaching has deep practical implications:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Death is not the tragedy of a delayed paradise<\/b>, but a peaceful sleep until awakening.<\/li>\n<li><b>The resurrection is the central event<\/b>, not merely the \u201creunion of body and soul\u201d (because the soul was not \u201ctraveling\u201d separately).<\/li>\n<li><b>Hope is concrete<\/b>: \u201cwill hear the voice of the Son of God\u201d at the resurrection (John 5:28\u201329).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Conditional immortality is not a pessimistic doctrine. On the contrary, it places Christ\u2019s resurrection and the future resurrection of the faithful at the center of all hope.
