Eat it before the Lord your God&#8230; so that you may learn to fear the Lord your God always.\" <cite><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Deuteronomy+14:22-23&amp;version=UKR\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Deut. 14:22\u201323<\/a><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Deuteronomy 14 describes a tithe that was eaten at the festivals in Jerusalem (or converted into money for the journey). <b>Discussion<\/b>: is this the same tithe as in Numbers, but with a description of its use\u2014or a separate \"second tithe\"?<\/p>\n<h2>\"Third-year tithe\" \u2014 for the poor<\/h2>\n<blockquote><p>\"At the end of every third year, set aside all the tithe of that year's produce and store it in your towns\u2014for the Levite, the foreigner, the fatherless, and the widow.\" <cite><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Deuteronomy+14:28-29&amp;version=UKR\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Deut. 14:28\u201329<\/a><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Every third and sixth year, the tithe was directed not to the sanctuary but to local communities\u2014to support the poor. Some scholars consider this a variation of the main tithe; others see it as a third separate system.<\/p>\n<h2>Adventist position<\/h2>\n<p>Seventh-day Adventists generally focus on <b>one main tithe<\/b> (10% for the support of ministers), which reflects the principle of Num. 18. The remaining texts describe complementary forms of giving\u2014but not necessarily parallel tithes.<\/p>\n<h2>Practical meaning<\/h2>\n<p>Regardless of the number of tithes, the key principle remains unchanged:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Supporting ministers (tithe to the church) is a Biblical norm, not a human tradition.<\/li>\n<li>Additional giving\u2014for festivals, the poor, and mission work\u2014is an expression of a generous heart.<\/li>\n<li>God does not need what is ours\u2014but our generosity shapes us.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>The Old Covenant system gives principles, not a mechanical code.
