It is <b>not merely sorrow about the past<\/b> (which is often read into the word \u201crepentance\u201d), but a radical reorientation of the entire way of thinking. A person begins to think differently about God, about themselves, about meaning.<\/p>\n<h2>\u1f00\u03bd\u03b1\u03ba\u03b1\u03af\u03bd\u03c9\u03c3\u03b9\u03c2 (anakain\u014dsis) \u2014 renewal, restoring<\/h2>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cBe transformed by the renewing (<i>anakain\u014dsis<\/i>) of your mind.\u201d <cite><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Romans+12:2&amp;version=UKR\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rom 12:2<\/a><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><i>Anakain\u014dsis<\/i> \u2014 a process that happens again and again (ana \u2014 again), renewal, like restoring what has been worn out. <b>The mind is not simply \u201cfixed\u201d once \u2014 it is continually renewed<\/b> through the work of the Holy Spirit.<\/p>\n<h2>\u03bc\u03b5\u03c4\u03b1\u03bc\u03bf\u03c1\u03c6\u03cc\u03bf\u03bc\u03b1\u03b9 (metamorphoomai) \u2014 transformation<\/h2>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cAnd be transformed by the renewing&#8230;\u201d <cite><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Romans+12:2&amp;version=UKR\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rom 12:2<\/a><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This is the source of the word \u201cmetamorphosis.\u201d In Romans 12:2 and 2 Corinthians 3:18 it describes <b>an outwardly visible transformation<\/b>, which comes from an inward process. A caterpillar becomes a butterfly\u2014this is not self-improvement, but a qualitative change of nature.<\/p>\n<h2>Practical meaning<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><i>Metanoia<\/i> \u2014 a turning point: I think differently about God and about myself.<\/li>\n<li><i>Anakain\u014dsis<\/i> \u2014 a daily process: the Spirit renews the mind through the Word and prayer.<\/li>\n<li><i>Metamorphoomai<\/i> \u2014 the result: a character that becomes noticeably different.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>All three words describe one path: from a person who thinks in the categories of \u201cthis age\u201d to a person whose mind reflects Christ.
