The tenth chapter of Revelation is a transition between the sixth and seventh trumpets. A mighty angel descends with a cloud, a rainbow over his head, feet like pillars of fire\u2014and places his right foot on the sea and his left foot on the land.<\/b> What does this mean?<\/p>\n

The symbolism of the position of the feet<\/h2>\n

\u201cAnd he set his right foot on the sea, and his left foot on the land.\u201d Rev. 10:2<\/a><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

In ancient symbolism, to place one\u2019s foot on something meant to take authority over it. The angel standing on both sea and land symbolizes God\u2019s universal reach<\/b>: there is no corner of earth or sea that lies outside His authority and His message.<\/p>\n

Adventist interpretation<\/h2>\n

Adventists have traditionally identified this angel with the \u201cmighty angel\u201d of Rev. 18:1\u2014and connect the scene with the unfolding of the \u201ceverlasting gospel\u201d (Rev. 14:6). The little book in the angel\u2019s hand is the Book of Daniel, which after 1844 was opened in a new way.<\/p>\n

Rev. 10:7 speaks of the \u201cfinishing of the mystery of God\u201d\u2014at the time when the seventh angel begins to sound. The moment of universal scope = the moment of the irreversible completion of the plan of salvation.<\/b><\/p>\n
