Peter explains that this is not evidence that God has turned away. <b>On the contrary, trials are God\u2019s instrument for purification and strengthening.<\/b> When he goes on to speak about \u201cjudgment,\u201d he includes in this concept the process of purification through suffering.<\/p>\n<h2>Biblical principle: judgment begins first with His own<\/h2>\n<p>Peter\u2019s words reflect an ancient principle of Scripture. The prophet Jeremiah (25:29) and Ezekiel (9:6) conveyed God\u2019s words: judgment begins with the \u201csanctuary,\u201d that is, with His people.
