This question arises regularly — and therefore it is important to answer precisely: Ellen White nowhere directly wrote that Orion is the dwelling place of God or of His throne.
What she actually wrote
The best-known passage is in “Early Writings” (p. 41). There she describes a vision of the last events: “Through the open space in Orion came the glory of the Father”. This is a symbolic prophetic vision — not an astronomical or theological treatise.
She does not explain in detail what this “open space” is. She does not say: “God lives there” or “This is Paradise.” She describes the way in which, in the vision, the glory of the Father appeared — through a certain open space in the constellation.
What the Bible says about God and place
“Heaven is My throne, and the earth is My footstool.” Isaiah 66:1
“Heaven and the highest heaven cannot contain You — how much less this temple I have built.” 1 Kings 8:27
Scripture consistently emphasizes: God is not limited by space. He fills heaven and earth (Jer 23:24). The idea that His “throne” is located in a specific constellation contradicts the biblical understanding of the nature of God.
Practical meaning
- Distinguish symbolic prophetic vision from a theological statement.
- White herself emphasized: Scripture is the highest authority, and her visions never contradict the Word.
- The center of Adventist eschatology is Christ, who is returning, not the location of Orion.
The answer is simple: White saw in vision an image through which the glory of the Father came. She did not write a theological doctrine about God and Orion. The difference between these two statements is enormous.
